here you'll find many things. i was introduced this year though was aware for many years now. halfway thru now , about page 5600 ~ ? whenever the acts start having three parts. ive grown to really love homstuck so all of my homostuff will be placed in these fine quarters. tally ho!
Let's get to it.
What even is Homestuck?
Homestuck was a long-running multi-media webcomic written by Andrew Hussie and contributed to by a number of artists through 2009-2016 following the story of kids who gain access to a video game called Sburb that can manipulate space, time, and their current and multiple other realities. It has since spawned numerous spin-offs, games, books, merchendise, inspired-works, and a ravenously insane fanbase comparable to the hunger of once-starved beasts.
Why should I read Homestuck?
don't.
homestuck is like, the relic of the internet when it was made. which makes sense because a lot of concepts and characters are parodies *of* the internet . it is one-of-a-kind. hussie has a knack for character writing, and the way she writes characters, particularly how the teenagers *act* like teenagers, really enraptured me. the bizzareness of it all can lead to confusion which makes you wanna learn more. the story is often very convoluted and complex and it leads to a lot of curiosity and attachment to its story. its fun. its weird. its unique. lots of things to pick apart. it has a lot to say.
and i mean it has a lot to say! you switch from reading one of the funniest logs to realizing the horrific implications of it. everything is so silly but so serious. it's extremely aware. soooo much happens and its like glue that you cant get out of! you want to know *more* and more about these characters, and the odd frameworks hussie blasts you with from the beginning and how they graudally build up, and mourn how so many things have failed and seeing how they will succeed, and it makes you want to make a really long text post about it and then also hold your head for a second because you remember that YOU HATE TIME TRAVEL and do not understand what is going on anymore. and that's the point but you'll get it eventually, which, is also the point. there is so much, and i mean, so much time involved in homestuck. the way it presents it all is so interesting. the way hussie makes up lore is like gaining access to honk's own paracosm. only it understands the rules of all this shit and now you have to decipher it!
it's most stand-out aspects to me, in a nice ol
- very strong characters , no one is boring or shallow , even the ones i dont care for
- compelling storyline , will make you feel a lot or just stay engaged
- engaging multimedia aspects . i have spent so much time in alterniabound .
- i like what it has to say about gender and patriarchy and imperialism and child abuse a whole lot!
- i like how homestuck looks. kind of ugly but charming
- extremely funny.
if you like long stories with really good characters you should read homestuck. if you're interested in stories that fuck with linearity you should read homestuck. 'ts a good comic. dont be put off by the length it is not "hard" to get into. i thought the same way , cuz it was so big . . . but it's just a comic :p .
Why shouldn't I read Homestuck?
andrew hussie is/was very racist and ableist in the making of homestuck. in the earlier years there's r slurs thrown like there's no tomorrow and how hussie views black people existing as a "joke" is extremely blatant. it is uncomfortable and it is interwoven with the story as everything else is. in the years since homestuck has run hussie has changed as a person but that aspect is still prevalent, just like many other pieces of media out there unfortunately. when reading you just have to acknowledge this going in and view it with a critical eye.
less-serious reasons would be that its non-linearity and emphasis on frameworks and rules made by the author can be a bit confusing biting into before it starts to make sense.
Where should I read Homestuck?
use the unofficial homestuck collection by giovanH. even the creators prefer it to the original on homestuck.com because homestuck.com's flashes and games died because of the death of flash player. they didn't emulate any of it on ruffle so now everything is just a low quality video. quite lame , as the flashes are some of the most beautiful parts of homestuck and its interactivity is key. with that said, use the unofficial collection.
it is the entirety of mspa (ms paint adventures) condensed into a 4gb download that you can view offline on your computer at any time. i can just pull whatever i want from mspa here.

GAH!

BLUH!

BLAR- okay enough of that.
the unofficial collection is basically an offline homestuck browser and it fucking rules. you can also mod it. i for one, have trouble reading tiny courier font on ffffff backgrounds all bunched together so i downloaded a mod that made things more accesible for me to read and also used some of the customization that comes with the browser. it is very easy to download and if you want to get into homestuck or even other mspa stuff like problem sleuth and have 4gb to spare, give it a whirl!
there is also a web-app beta version of the collection that retains all the flashes however as of writing it is down!
In conclusion:
Homestuck has its faults but it is also very good, i like it, you should read it. explore below for more things about it ➕ particularly my favorite parts :P like my fav characters and meta and so forth. download the unofficial collection today! come see why people are obsessed with those ugly nft gray things! understand quirks! get into homestuck!!!
